Collar-powered while-drilling measurement system with power-line carrier transmission, DGS Workbench software and real-time trajectory display for mine drilling.
The Mining While-Drilling Measurement Device (Collar-Powered) monitors borehole inclination, azimuth, tool-face angle and related parameters during drilling while realizing borehole parameter and trajectory analysis. It is suitable for gas-drainage holes, advanced exploration holes, surface exploration holes and coalbed methane horizontal branch holes, using power-line carrier transmission.
Drilling operations in coal mines serve many purposes — gas drainage, advanced exploration, surface exploration and coalbed methane horizontal branch holes — and each demands accurate knowledge of the borehole path while drilling continues. The Mining While-Drilling Measurement Device (Collar-Powered) monitors borehole inclination, azimuth, tool-face angle and related parameters during drilling, and goes one step further by realizing borehole parameter and trajectory analysis as the data accumulates.
The device uses power-line carrier transmission, sending measurement data over the drill-string power path with a high data rate, short measurement time and stable communication. It is supported by the DGS Workbench measurement and control software, which receives the data, manages measurement operations and presents results to the driller. During drilling, trajectory data can be collected and read in real time and displayed in intuitive tables and curves — exactly the feedback needed to keep a borehole on course.
Because the device supports power-line carrier communication, it avoids the failure modes of cable-based systems while keeping the high data rates needed for dense measurement. Its applicability across gas-drainage holes, advanced exploration holes, surface exploration holes and CBM horizontal branch holes makes it a versatile measurement platform for the full range of coal-mine drilling.
