Wireless communication solution for mine cage operations with explosion-proof self-organizing base stations, providing voice, video and dispatching inside cages over 800 m shafts.
The Wireless Communication Solution for Mine Cage Operations provides voice, video and dispatching functions inside mine cages using explosion-proof wireless self-organizing network base stations. Designed for cage video monitoring, cage voice, cage dispatching and wireless coverage, it keeps cage personnel continuously connected during shaft transport.
Mine cages move personnel and materials through the shaft, and while they travel, cage occupants — particularly drivers — have traditionally been cut off from the surface communication network. This wireless communication solution extends voice, video and dispatching services into the cage itself. It is designed around two mine cages operating in the same shaft, with a vertical depth of more than 800 meters and a shaft diameter close to 10 meters — a demanding environment for wireless transmission.
The solution is built on explosion-proof wireless self-organizing network base stations. Instead of relying on a fixed access point inside the moving cage, the self-organizing network dynamically maintains connectivity between the cage-mounted equipment and the shaft infrastructure as the cage travels. This provides reliable wireless coverage inside the cage for the full depth of the shaft, supporting cage video monitoring, cage voice communication and cage dispatching functions.
Each cage can be equipped with a camera for personnel and driver monitoring and a Wi-Fi intercom for the driver, so the surface dispatcher can see who is in the cage, speak with the driver directly and coordinate shaft operations in real time. Voice quality and video streams are maintained through the self-organizing network without the frequent dropouts typical of conventional shaft wireless systems. The result is a practical, regulation-conscious communication upgrade for one of the most isolated working environments in the mine.
